Scalable Peer-to-Peer Distributed Storage and Grid Storage
Interest in distributed storage is fueled by demand for
reliability and resilience combined with decreasing hardware costs.
Peer-to-peer storage networks based on distributed hash tables are
an attractive solution due to their efficient use of resources and
resulting performance. The placement and location of replicas in
such systems remain open problems, especially in view of dynamic
needs and the requirement to update replicated content.
As part of this project, we have been looking at several issues
related to distributed storage:
-
Enabling secure communication among cooperating peers using the
distributed approach of VersaKey
-
Reliable communication mechanisms and protocols for
synchronization, partly in cooperation with the
ALMI and EKA projects
- Providing incentives towards keeping storage promises
-
Maintaining low-overhead routing information in overlay networks,
partly in cooperation with ALMI
-
Allowing for finding replicas without requiring additional
metadata ("replica enumeration")
